PD/H/PE is one of the six Key Learning areas in the NSW Primary Curriculum. This syllabus is based on a broad notion of health that encompasses all aspects of an individuals wellbeing, inclusive of social, mental, physical and spiritual health.
PD/H/PE encourages an understanding and value of self and others, promotes physical activity, emphasizes informed decision making leading to effective and responsible action.
Areas covered under the umbrella of PD/H/PE at Seaforth include:
Life Education Van with the inspiring and lovable Healthy Harold. Here the children learn how to make well informed choices on health issues.
Child Protection Lessons where the children discuss life changes and associated feelings.
Sport and Fitness helping the children become aware of the connection between physical activity and health. Children are given every opportunity to participate in physical activity at their fitness and skill level.
Drug Education Lessons where again the children are encouraged to discuss factors influencing the personal health choices they may need to make.
Road Safety awareness lessons K-6.
Bike Safety with a special visit by Year 5 students to the Police bike track at St Ives.
Gymnastics K-6.
Dance opportunities are given the children through class Assembly items, School Concerts, guest performances and specialist Dance groups.
Sun Protection and Water Safety awareness.
Inter- Relate lessons for Year 5 and 6 students.
PD/H/PE activities help to ensure that as the children leave primary school they are suitably equipped to make well informed decisions.
