Human Society and Its Environment is the key learning area in which students develop knowledge, understandings, skills, values and attitudes about people and their social and physical environments.
The content of Human Society and Its Environment incorporates gender, Aboriginal, citizenship, multicultural, environmental, work and global perspectives. It also recognises the importance of concepts that will support reconciliation between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians, such as the recognition of spirituality and shared heritage.
Human Society and its Environment gives students the opportunities to acquire, interpret and create information by using computers and other technologies.
Information technology enables students to locate, access, view and analyses a range of savvy material. It provides opportunities for students to design and create information products and to determine the usefulness, accuracy, reliability and validity of information.
During 2005your children will be developing the above objectives through the following units of work. In addition to the formal units of work the teaching of values is a vital component of this curriculum. All children experience lessons highlighting the values published in the Department Education and Training's Values Statement. This are those values that underpin our Australian democratic society. The values of tolerance and acceptance of all members of the school community and society at large are basic to this values statement. Parents wishing to have a copy of the values statement may apply to the school.
